Ratifying Convention

Gatherings to which delegates are elected to attend for the sole purpose of rejecting, ratifying or amending a proposed or current constitution. Massachusetts held the first such convention in 1780. States subsequently used this method to determine whether or not their citizens wished to ratify the proposed US Constitution.
