A war fought between the United States and Great Britain from 1812-1815 over issues of US sovereignty and British attempts to impede neutral trade to France during the Napoleonic Wars. It is sometimes referred to as "the Second American War for Independence." The war was generally unpopular in New England due to the region's commercial ties and dependence on trade with England.
